Member KnuxKitsune has got windows 3.1 running on dosbox for rs97 the guide is below if you fancy trying it thanks again to KnuxKitsune for getting it running.
Install Guide windows 3.1 on dosbox
Step 1) first start DOSBox for the first time, then type exit to quit the emulator.
Step 2) Mount the SD to your computer and open .dosbox folder and edit the config with notepad
If you haven't already, make a roms folder called "DOS"
Step 3) type in the config file on its own line "mount c /mnt/int_sd/roms/DOS" assuming that's where you created the folder linebreak (press Enter) and add another line simply "C:" and save the file.
Step 4)now you'll need a version of Windows 3.1 I recommend the standard 3.1 which you can download here: https://winworldpc.com/download/c3a1c3bb-387f-5cc5-a111-c3a4c2a90f70
Step 5) There will be a zip with, I believe, 6 img files. Use 7zip to open and extract the contents of all those files to a folder. Name it something like "install" or "setup"
Put that folder into your DOS folder.
Step 6) Go on and reboot the RS-97 and open DOSBox....I recommend overclocking to 624 first as even a small overclock makes a noticeable difference.
Step 7) Alright, now DOSBox is at a C:\ Prompt
type cd "install" (or whatever you called the folder you extracted the img files' contents into) enter
type dir.
note the controls for DOSBox! L button opens a virtual keyboard, A types the letter, B triggers to hold a button such as Shift, Start is Enter, Select is Esc. controls change when not in keyboard mode.
Step 8) maybe dir/p to view files one page at a time...you want to find either install or setup...I can't remember what they call it for 3.1 then type that and hit enter Windows setup will start, follow the prompts.
Step 9)once installed, you'll be back at the C prompt.
type cd windows
then type win
Windows will now start.
Tips
Once in Windows, B acts as the Alt key. you'll mainly be using that to navigate Windows. Arrows of course move the selector (highlighted items) around. Start again is Enter, Select is still Esc. There is so far no way to move the mouse but a cursor is on screen.
If anyone wants a simple file navigator to launch dos games, follow the instructions below:
Step 1) Start DOSBox for the first time, then type exit (Left shoulder button opens a virtual keyboard) to quit the emulator.
Step 2) Mount the SD to your computer. If you haven't already, make a roms folder called "DOS"
Step 3) Go to the following website and download Dos Navigator 1.51 Freeware Release from the Dos Navigator 1.51 binaries (786K) link on this page:
https://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/dn/
Step 4) Unzip dn151.zip into your DOS folder in roms
Step 5) Using notepad on your computer, edit the dosbox-SVN.conf file from .dosbox folder and type after the #comments in the [autoexec] section on their own lines, the following and then save the file:
mount c /mnt/int_sd/roms/DOS c: dn.com
